What is 5-Amino-1MQ?

5-Amino-1MQ is a small-molecule compound (not a peptide), developed as an inhibitor of nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT), an enzyme involved in cellular energy balance and metabolic regulation. By inhibiting NNMT, it is thought to preserve nicotinamide for NAD+ synthesis rather than conversion into methylated metabolites. It emerged from research into obesity and metabolic disorders. Unlike peptide-based agents, 5-amino-1MQ acts through targeted enzyme inhibition, with preclinical studies suggesting potential effects on fat metabolism, energy expenditure, and body composition.
